When it comes to production automobiles, zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.3 seconds (Ariel Atom) is pretty darned fast. For Apple, velocity is measured in an entirely different way, from zero to zero in under 24 hours. Since 8AM Friday (zero hour) morning until Saturday morning, sometime before 8AM, Apple completely sold through its entire stock of millions of iPhone 5S units.
Phillip Elmer-Dewitt (Fortune) is reporting Apple in its many wonderful multinational forms has no more Gold iPhone 5Ses in stock, let alone the less popular Silver or Space Gray models
“By Saturday morning, less than 24 hours after the iPhone 5S went on sale in nine countries around the world, Apple had sold out its entire September stock,” writes Elmer-Dewitt. “The company’s US online store shows all models in all colors unavailable before October.”
However, new iPhone wanters needn’t go without because, although many models (a.k.a. colors) had sold out, Apple has restocked the iPhone 5C and all colors and configurations are once again available online and (most?) retail locations.
Cool, yes, but not exactly the world’s fastest smartphone, let alone a gold one.
But worry not well healed Gold iPhone 5S buyers, eBay still has more than 1,600 listings — buy one now for $1,600 (there are also over 1,000 listings each for Space Gray and Silver).
How bad do you want a shiny new iPhone 5S? Enough to “Buy It Now” on eBay for more than a $1,000 or can you wait until sometime in October, when Apple expects to get more?
