While the Samsung Galaxy S4 release date isn’t yet known, the Korean-based tech giant made it very clear that they would be pulling back the curtain on the Galaxy S4 on March 14, with event invites dropping hints to be “Ready 4 The Next Galaxy”. While there has been a lot of speculation, you can find below the most likely Samsung Galaxy S4 features that we’ll see unveiled in Times Square.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 had a bright, crisp 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display with a native resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and pixel density of 306 ppi. The current trend towards 5-inch smartphone displays only appears to be growing with the Samsung Galaxy S4 reportedly sporting a 4.99-inch Full HD SoLux Display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920, which translates to a retina-busting 450 pixels per inch. To accommodate the larger screen, the overall length and width of the device have increased from 136.6 x 70.6mm on the S3 to 140.1 x 71.8mm on the new Samsung Galaxy S4. However, despite being an overall larger device, the smartphone is now just 7.7mm thick compared to the 8.6mm depth of the Galaxy S3. These dimensions make the Samsung Galaxy S4 a much bigger handset than the iPhone 5, but still only 0.1mm thicker.
Design-wise, the Galaxy S4 is expected to be an evolution of the ‘Galaxy’ series design rather than a dramatic departure. The Samsung Galaxy S4 looks set to feature a polycarbonate backing, aluminum sides and a repositioning of the home button to an ‘off-screen’ location to increase the ability of the display to achieve an edge-to-edge appearance.
Samsung Galaxy S4 – Under the Hood
The Samsung Galaxy S4 will most likely feature a new-generation variant of the Exynos processor that powered the Galaxy S3. If the new Samsung Galaxy S4 features the Exynos 5 Octa CPU it will be the world’s first smartphone to feature an eight-core processor. There are rumblings however, that the Galaxy S4 will be powered by the 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600. The S4 will also boast a dedicated graphics processing unit (GPU) which will produce roughly double the graphics performance provided by the chipset in the S3.
The new Samsung Galaxy S4 will feature 4G LTE connectivity, HSDPA support and full Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n compatibility. The handset is expect to come in three different sizes (16GB, 32GB, 64GB) and two colors (white and black).
Samsung Galaxy S4 Release Date and Price
The next-generation Galaxy will be unveiled on March 14 and the new Samsung Galaxy release date will be sometime during Q2 of this year. Samsung haven’t historically had as tight timing as Apple when it comes to product announcement and product release, with the Galaxy S3 not being available in the U.S. for almost two months after it was launched in early May of 2012.
With a cheaper iPhone reportedly in the wings, we’d be very surprised if the Samsung Galaxy S4 price differs much from the $199 (16GB) or $249 (32GB) launch-price of the S3. The smartphone will also be available off-contract for somewhere in the range of $599-699 depending on storage capacity.
