Coming just days after the first rumors that Sharp would be supplying displays for the iPad 3, The Wall Street Journal reports that their own sources have confirmed that Sharp will indeed be producing the new high-definition retina displays for the next-generation iPad.
Sharp is already the supplier for iPhone displays, and is rumored to also be producing the display for the iPhone 5, which is due in the summer of 2012.
According to earlier reports, Sharp will be supplying Apple with new screens that will enable a lighter, lower-power and thinner iPad 3 – which runs contrary to other rumors which stated that the iPad 3 would be thicker than the current model due to the extra room required for a dual-bar lighting system to support the higher resolution display.
