Combo Slash iPhone Game Review
Price: $1.99 Score: 8.5/10 Category: Games
Combo Slash, developed by INT SQUARE, is a fun fighter-RPG hybrid iPhone game that offers you the chance to save young maidens aplenty (and the kingdom to boot!)
The Calun Continent is in crisis. Dark forces are kidnapping young girls from around the kingdom and sacrificing them to ensure the return of a dark king long since dead. Your job is simple: find the girls, rescue them, and eliminate your many enemies.
Playing as either a cleric or a mage (the cleric being the better rounded of the two options), you need to find your way around each timed level, saving the stolen girls and killing boss characters before the clock runs down.
Controls are pretty simple: there’s an onscreen D-pad (well, D-circle, really), paired with onscreen A, B, and S buttons to attack, dodge, and do special moves. Before the game starts, you get an overview of all possible combo moves. Make sure to commit it to memory for maximum attack points.
This side-scrolling action RPG combines the best of button-mashing fighting games and rich story and quest elements from RPGs.
There’s also great replay value here, thanks to randomized terrain and a randomized map system. Navigating is still pretty easy, however, as you have an in-game crystal detector to find the fairy prisoner and the boss you must defeat.
Still need more replay bang for your buck? After playing the 5 Normal stages, you can move on to the Survival and Hell modes where you can enjoy fights in up to 999 Waves. In short, you can get tons of gaming fun for just two bucks, which ain’t too shabby.
The graphics are a little compressed on the iPhone and Combo Slash would be less of a strain on the eyes if played on a bigger screen. That being said, for die-hard fighting RPG fans, there’s a lot to love here. As promised, the gameplay is smooth and lag-free, so check it out.
Combo Slash is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 4.1 or later.
