As the PS4 release date gets closer the rumors are continuing to pour in, providing a lot of speculation as to what Sony has in store for the PS4. Now, we do have some concrete knowledge regarding the new PS4 console, so lets go over those things first:
PS4 Controller Features
Contents
Sony has been hard pressed to provide images of the actual PS4, but they have already been showing off its controller. The new PlayStation controller will have the same basic layout as previous generations but will include a Share button, the ability to switch between multiple accounts, and it will also have a touch pad for additional functionality.
The Share button is definitely one of the more exciting additions to the PS4 controller since it will allow users to quickly share screenshots and videos of their gameplay, with just the click of a button. Indie developers will benefit tremendously from the Share features since it should increase awareness of their games and contribute to the marketing process in a big way.
The PS4 will still play games in 1080p
We were all overjoyed when Sony announced that the PS4 would include 4K output, but unfortunately, this feature only applies to non-game media such as a user’s pictures and videos. Games will still be running in 1080p since the technology to make and replay games in 4K is simply too expensive at this time.
There are very few limitations present with the PS4
The PS4 is a powerhouse in every sense of the word. Sony vowed to make the console more suitable for high-end developers and wanted to make sure that no game would have to be down-scaled in order to run on the PS4.
In order to make sure that every game would run perfectly on the system, Sony included a super-enhanced GPU, a X86-64 chip architecture, and 8GB of RAM. These specs are set to perform at about the same level as a mid to high-end gaming PC which is a big improvement over the PS3 which has been under-performing for years.
In terms of core speed, the PS4 is 16 times the speed of the PS3 meaning that practically any game currently in the works should have no issue running on the platform. This is actually good news for PC gamers as well since games shouldn’t be downgraded too much by the PS4’s market share to the point that they aren’t as impressive on the PC as they otherwise would be.
Sony could be launching the console in November 2013
Yep, that’s right! The latest rumors are suggesting that Sony will be able to launch the PS4 on November 22nd. This rumor comes from a statement made by Ubisoft saying that their game, Watchdogs, would be the first title to launch on the next-generation console.
