According to new reports, Apple is to begin offering in-store display replacements for it’s latest iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S handsets in an attempt to continue lowering repair costs for iPhone users.
These sources say that Apple Stores will be able to replace several aspects of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c on-site, meaning that Apple no-longer needs to fully replace iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c units with damage or other problems.
There is nothing more frustrating than having your shiny new iPhone 5S and then cracking the screen, only to then be told the only way to resolve the problem is by paying a fee to have Apple issue a replacement device. Alternatively you can go to a third party to have the repair done, but you then run the risk of not using genuine parts.
Apple In-Store Repair
That’s why Apple offering in-store screen repairs is a welcome announcement. The display replacements will cost $149 for each device not covered under the AppleCare+ agreement, with $79 being the charge for each device that is covered under the extended warranty. How that yet translates into GBP for us English residents is yet to be seen, assuming the service makes it across the pond.
Furthermore, Apple will also have the ability to replace volume buttons, sleep/wake buttons, vibration motors, the speakers, and the rear camera – all of which are common faults for the iPhone that previously wouldn’t be able to be fixed by the Apple Store.
These part replacements will be free of charge for devices still within the AppleCare warranty, but outside of which the cost will be part specific. For example, a surcharge of $29 for a Home button will be charged on the iPhone 5C; it is yet to be understood if Apple will offer the iPhone 5S Touch ID replacement in store.
