Wireless charging is undoubtedly one of the most useful features to be added to smartphones in the past few years, though the chargers themselves aren’t always great. The Tylt Vu offers one of the simplest Qi wireless charging methods possible and will even charge a smartphone or tablet no matter how it is placed on the charger.
Design
If you want a simplistic wireless charger for Qi-enabled devices, you cannot get much simpler than the Tylt Vu. Instead of including buttons, multiple lights, etc, on the charging pad, the Vu has no buttons and just one small charging light.
The basic design present with the Vu is not a bad thing however, since it makes the process of charging easier and allows just about anyone to use it.
On top of being simple to use, the Vu stands at a 45-degree angle, making it possible to use a smartphone or tablet while it is on the pad being charged. Given the way that the Vu works in general and the functionality of the 45-degree angle positioning, the charger is a worthwhile addition to a home office.
Among all the good things about the Vu, there is really just one downside and that is the use of a unique charger. While there are practical reasons why Tylt would decide against using a standard charging cable, it does mean that you cannot swap cables.
Performance
When someone purchases a phone partly because it is Qi-enabled and therefore supports wireless charging, they are generally willing to have their phone charging at a slower speed. That being said, smartphones do charge almost as quickly on the Vu as they would with a regular wall charger.
The difference in charging speed becomes a real factor if you are attempting to charge a tablet. During our testing, we noticed that when charging a Nexus 7 (2013), it would take up to two hours longer to reach a full charge than if the tablet was plugged into the wall.
Conclusion
As a home office/personal use product, the Tylt Vu is one of the best wireless chargers on the market. Being able to use a tablet or smartphone while it is on the charging pad makes the Vu particularly useful.
The one downside present with the device is that charging is a bit slower than wall charging, so keep that in mind if you are looking for a Qi wireless charger.
