Crusader Kings II, arguably the best title in Paradox Interactive Studio’s library, is free for a limited time on Steam. And you can keep it forever. This comes as a surprise to many, because the game is good. It isn’t the kind of game you would expect developers would give away for free. But that is what is happening today. And for the next few days.
If this seems to good to be true, check it out for yourself. All you have to do is login to your Steam account, and click on ‘add to library’. That’s it. It’s now in your library forever, and you can play whenever you want. So wait a second. What’s going on? The game is good, so why are they just handing out free copies?
Well, this may be a marketing strategy. A paid game offered for free? Obviously people will play it. This leaves them inclined to play Crusader Kings III, when it comes out. Or if it comes out actually. A developer from the studio setup camp on Reddit to answer the pressing questions asked by fans.
One of the questions was the possibility of a new title in the series. “From a business PoV, we want more people to discover our games and buy our DLC,” the developer replied. So it seems quite an innocent foray into pushing their game unto the masses.
Whatever their reasons may be, the fact remains that this is a good game, that is more importantly, free. You don’t really need a beastly computer to play this either. The game was published back in 2012. Crusader Kings II is known for being one of the better strategy games from that time. If you want experience a bit of gaming history, pick up a copy and play it. Because, and we can’t stress this enough, it’s free.
