A very up and down week for Apple and its legions of fans. More than 10 million iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 Pluses sold, but not few of those unable to make calls after yesterday’s botched iOS 8.0.1 update. But relax because Apple’s already working really hard on iOS 8.0.2.
And, then there’s the U2 album kerfuffle and bendgate, which say as much about some of Apple’s prickly and sometimes priggish hipster customers as it does about the company itself.

That said, Apple’s one problem that can’t be tracked back to spoiled bitches and/or their skinny jeans is the iOS 8.0.1 Update, which shipped yesterday and was quickly pulled. Unfortunately, before Apple removed it, iOS 8.0.1 stopped iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus owners from making phone calls and using Touch ID.
Bad Apple, seriously.
Regardless, Apple posted a mea culpa and work around:
We have a workaround for you if you have an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and you lost cellular service and Touch ID functionality today after updating to iOS 8.0.1. You can reinstall iOS 8 through iTunes by following the instructions below. We are also preparing iOS 8.0.2 with a fix for the issue, and will release it as soon as it’s ready in the next few days.
Nice try, guys, but Tapscape (and most of the internet) beat you to the punch drunk users. And, for what it’s worth, Apple’s work around looks just like our work around.
That said, iOS 8.0.2 is coming, though Apple remains characteristically silent on the timing.
