I’m sure readers out there who grew up with the NES, Contra and other Konami games know this code by heart – Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, B, A, Select, Start. Entering that meant your game was going to be a lot less frustrating because you’d be granted 30 lives instead of the normal three. Now, that code has somehow made its way to Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 2 and will give you access to a secret mode called “Extra Wubs.”
To access the Extra Wub mode, players will have to enter the following on the Borderlands 2 title screen:
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B [crouch for PC/PS3 players], A [jump button for PC/PS3 players], Start.
However, if you’re hoping that the code would give you extra lives or some cool new gear, you’ll be surprised to know that it does jack. Aside from “unlocking” a Borderlands 2 extra mode, Gearbox Software has confirmed that the mode does nothing but that they do apologize for the prank.
Good one, Gearbox. Good one.
Other than this wink to Contra and Konami, Borderlands 2 has a ton of other easter eggs and surprises. Have you uncovered any? Which ones are your favorites? Share them with your fellow Tapscapers in the comments below!
