Chem101 Pro is an iPhone app developed by Linton Intergroup Inc. Self-proclaimed as the “#1 Advanced Chemistry Application,” Chem101 Pro is a handy resource for chemistry students, both at the high school and college levels.
Supporting English, Russian, and Spanish languages, Chem101 Pro is an extremely attractive chemistry review tool that is thoughtfully organized. From the main screen, you can easily select the periodic table, review a glossary of chemistry terms, make complex calculations, or observe 3D models.
The periodic table is color-coded and easy to read, though I did wish it was possible to zoom in and zoom out, so as to see the whole chart at a glance.
The 3D models run the gamut from vitamins, pharmaceuticals, and narcotic drugs to more simple molecules like oxides, acids, and bases. The models can be manipulated and moved 360 degrees.
The glossary is very helpful. Organized alphabetically, each molecule or element on the list has its chemical name and/or chemical composition. This makes it a handy reference. When you tap on a given item, you will be presented with its other names, a description of its appearance, and a list of thermal and chemical properties.
There’s also a built-in testing feature with a barrage of surprisingly complex chemistry review questions. You do need to complete an entire test before you get confirmation of whether you answered correctly. You also can’t stop a test without losing your answers, so bear that in mind.
Whether you need to brush up on some high school chemistry basics before starting a college gen ed, or are learning chemistry principles for the very first time, this thoughtfully arranged study guide is worth paying a few dollars for.
