Zheng, a Chinese student from Anhui province has sold an organ so that he could afford to buy a much-wanted iPad 2. The 17-year-old told his local newspaper:
I wanted to buy an iPad 2 but could not afford it. A broker contacted me on the Internet and said he could help me sell one kidney for 20,000 yuan.
Zheng went through with the procedure and had his kidney removed for the equivalent of $3000. The boy’s mother was surprised to see him return home with such an expensive item, and after finding out what had happened, notified the local authorities.
