Developed by Siegfried Schulz-Giese, Dispair is a unique and challenging brainteaser game.
When you first start the game it’s a little bit hard to follow exactly what it is you’re supposed to do. By default, the starting level is set to level 9 (which you can’t play without paying for), so you’ll need to lower down the level on the main screen first to level 4 – the first playable level.
The idea of the game is to figure out which order a series of hidden letters are in. The mystery letter sequence sits at the top of the screen and is marked with ‘?’ symbols. The letters below are then changed to try and work out the hidden ones with as few moves as possible.
Unfortunately Dispair isn’t all that intuitive and the player can be left scratching their head at all the options available, which seem to be discriminators that allow for notification of distance (dis) and neighbourhood (pair) information.
An interesting concept for an iPhone game, but one that requires some tutorials on the basics of the game for this to be accessible to the majority of players. The help file is only somewhat helpful, as it references terms like “proper pairs” and “kinky pairs” without explanation as to what they mean.
We look forward to seeing how this original iPhone game evolves with future updates.
Dispair requires iOS 6.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5. Follow Tapscape for the top iPhone game reviews.
