Earth 3D is a very cool Mac App developed by 3Planesoft. Freshly updated on July 1, the newest version of Earth 3D has a lot to offer for fans of geography.
Long-time readers may recall that we’ve reviewed Earth 3D before. Back then, it was going for $2.99. These days, it’s 99 cents during a limited time only sale. We gave the app a score of 9 out of 10.
In our last review, we wrote that Earth 3D’s “visuals of the Earth are absolutely stunning, with HD-textures for 1920×1080 and up…I can’t get over how gorgeous Earth 3D looks, and I could imagine a curious child spending hours just exploring the map, totally blissed out…Your computer screen is your window to the world.”
Months later, Earth 3D has gotten even better. Flags and coat of arms for U.S. states, Canadian provinces and Australian states have been adding, further enriching an app that was already very educational. Better still, the overall interface is a lot more approachable and information rich. This app was pretty before, but it’s more inviting now.
Using this positively gorgeous app, you can observe 1,300 geographic objects and over 300 wonders of the world. The zoom goes up to 15x, so you can get real detail as you explore the globe from the comfort of your couch or desk. And yes, this app is retina ready!
If you want weather updates, you’ll need to make sure that you’ve connected to the Internet. However, for all other uses of this app, you can go offline. That makes this a great learning tool, even in places with low connectivity.
Overall, Earth 3D is a great Mac App. Whether you’re looking for an educational app that will captivate young kids, or a just a stunning timewaster that will help you unwind at the end of the day, Earth 3D is totally going to suck you in.
