EZCOMMA iPhone App Review: Cute Grammar Help

[app id=”767894082″]

EZCOMMA is an iPhone app developed by David Tick, a certified English teacher and reading specialist. Tick claims that his app will help you to become a better writer in mere minutes.

EZCOMMA is a writing and grammar app designed to help you present yourself to the world “as intelligent as you really are.” As the name suggests, EZCOMMA is preoccupied with teaching you all about proper comma usage.

The proper usage of semicolons is also explained. Tick argues that learning to use these two types of punctuation is “the key to a more developed writing style.”

EZCOMMA features a navigation menu that is simple to navigate, along with your ‘teacher’: Mr. E. Z. Comma. As Mr. Comma teaches you, can can listen to the original music of David Tick and his band.

Overall, I liked the interface here. The drop-down chalkboard moves a bit slowly, and I sometimes found myself wishing I could speed things up a bit.

The graphic elements here are fine, with the little guy pictured above being the most exciting thing visually. The rest of this reference is a bit dry, visually, but that is kind of what you want in an educational app.

I do wish there was a way to make an in-app purchase to get rid of the banner ads. The ads are really distracting, and that’s not a good thing in a grammar educational app that really requires your full attention.

This app is very focused on a few areas of grammar and language, which makes it great if there’s just one thing you need to improve. However, if you’re looking for a more comprehensive grammar reference, this is likely to be a bit brief for your needs.

EZCOMMA requires iOS 5.1.1 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
