It was only a matter of time until an iOS application gave iPad 2 users a reason to use both their front and rear cameras. ‘Fring’ is the first app to bring group video chat to the iPad 2.
Fring, one of Skype’s major competitors, offers free video chat over smartphones and tablets. Users can chat over Wi-Fi or 3G, if absolutely necessary. That feature alone makes Fring a force to be reckoned with, considering FaceTime only supports chatting over Wi-Fi.
Instead of waiting for its competitors to bring video chat to Apple’s famed tablet, Fring decided to step up its game and deliver group video chat to the iPad, making it the only video chat application specific to the iPad 2.
All the same features that are available on the iPhone and iPod Touch are available on the iPad as well. Additional features include FringOut, which lets you call any phone number using cheap Fring credits.
