Chinese forum dedicated to Samsung reveals the Galaxy S4

Galaxy S4

The Galaxy S4 is two days away from being released in Times Square, but a Chinese forum may have snapped the chance for the reveal to be special. On 52Samsung, a dedicated Samsung forum, a photo has cropped up with the front and back of the new smartphone.

As with previous rumours, the GT-I9502 model number is on this smartphone, making it slightly more credible. That model number has been confirmed by many sources as the one for the Galaxy S4. The phone has got some new features that have been rumoured endlessly.

These include the 1080 x 1920 display and quad-core processor, which means we will sadly not see an octo-core processor on the Galaxy S4, if this rumour has any truth to it. The two photos have the same sort of oddly taken amateur photographer style that we have seen with many leaks over the past month.

According to the source, the Galaxy S4 doesn’t have any eye-tracking technology, but Samsung may be implementing that feature later. It comes with the latest version of Android (4.2), under the usual TouchWiz UI skin.

The specs also include 2GB of RAM and a 13MP rear camera. All this seems to be above board and ordinary, which seems so odd. The phone looks a little larger than the Galaxy S3, pointing to a 4.99″ screen.

These reported stats wouldn’t propel Samsung above the competition, as the Galaxy S2 and S3 seemed to do so well. The HTC One and Xperia Z both have the same resolution, the same processing cores, the same RAM, the Xperia has the same camera, it doesn’t push the boundaries. The processor could be Samsung’s 1.8GHz quad-core model, although it would only be 0.1GHz faster than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600, inside the HTC One.

Some tech agencies are saying this could be the work of Samsung, to push us off the trail. Whatever the case, it feels too underwhelming to be the Galaxy S4.
