Granted, the majority of App Store shoppers are likely to go for years without ever considering an app purchase over $5. But if you’re willing to pony up the dough for this excellent iPhone app, you may just transform your experience on the greens.
In a game where you are ultimately competing against yourself, this well constructed app is an important tool you can use to improve your game with each outing. Acting as a “mobile golf assistant,” Golfsites allows you to track your ball as you play through the course, as well as tracking your stats across each hole.
Need help visualizing the next hole? You’re in luck. Golfsites features over 20,000 course layouts from all over the world, each one rendered via GPS-precise satellite photography, giving you a bird’s eye view of nearly any course you can imagine. Oh, and did we mention each layout includes a hole-by-hole breakdown: total length in yards (metric info is also available), info on sand traps and water hazards, and of course, par difficulty.
GolfSites prides itself on their ball path tracking system, which gives you stroke measurements that are accurate down to within 1-5 yards. Equally as impressive is the ease with which you can input information about what kind of club you’re using.
One thing that might bug some users is the additional costs of using Golfsites. After shelling out nearly $25, even the wealthiest of app users might be dismayed when they need to buy in-app credits to unlock country club maps.
While your initial purchase includes some of these credits, avid golfers will need to keep shelling out cash over the years to get the most out of Golfsites. Still, given the amount of cash the average golfers throw at apparel, equipment, and country club fees, the benefits of this intuitive iPhone app are worth paying for.
