Although Google Hummingbird has already been in effect for around a month, the search giant is finally coming out with some specifics regarding the algorithm change. Like Google always has, the specific algorithm has not been made public information but Google did state that Hummingbird specifically makes the search engine more useful when longer queries are entered.
Google’s previous update to the search ranking system was called Caffeine and that update generally focussed on ranking and indexing websites more than ranking information. Hummingbird is the exact opposite, as Google hopes it will help useful information make it to the top of search rankings even when longer, detailed queries are used.
Searching for random topics has become popular as more and more people rely on the internet, which has in return forced Google to consistently update the way that it ranks web pages.
Google Hummingbird was officially announced today during a PR event in Menlo Park which is where Google used to work out of with new announcements.
For the most part, Google is becoming more advanced and when people search for something in a conversational way, Google should now be able to understand what someone is actually looking for in the results.
As Google becomes more advanced it will also become more useful. Considering that Google is already the most popular service on the internet, it is nice to see that it is still being updated as often as possible to improve the user experience.
People in the SEO field have seen Google’s expansion into predictive searching as potentially beneficial but whether or not the technology will help Google in the long run has yet to be seen.
