According to a rumor from Dutch blog Tweakers, Google’s high-end Pixel C tablet is set to launch on Dec. 8. Previously, Google said that the tablet would be out “in time for the holidays.” Google has yet to confirm the Dec. 8 release date.
The Pixel C is pricey. The tablet can easily cost more than a laptop, retailing at $499 and $599 for its 32GB and 64GB models, respectively. Plus, you’ll have to pay an extra $149 if you want the magnetic keyboard.
Unlike Google’s other Pixel line of Chrome products, the Pixel C runs Android instead of Chrome OS. Google is offering additional software support for the Pixel C, claiming the tablet will receive regular updates every six weeks.
The Pixel C maintains the finished high-end look of Google’s other Pixel products with a super slim 7mm anodised aluminum unibody at about a pound. Other newer tech the Pixel C is equipped with is a USB Type-C port,
Engadget’s Nicole Lee lauded the Pixel as “One of the most elegant tablets” she’s seen, and “Google’s answer to the Microsoft Surface.” However, as versatile as Android is, the mobile operating system pales in comparison to the powerful Windows 10 compatible Surface.
Google Vice President Hiroshi Lockheimer, in charge of Android, Chrome and Chromecast, has been seen taking the tablet through airport security via Twitter.
