Hacked Apple TV Runs iOS Apps Full Screen

While the Apple TV may not mean too much to Apple, hackers consider the device to be a major project. Steven Troughton-Smith is no stranger to this realm. The hacker is best known for getting Siri to work on devices besides the iPhone 4S. Now he’s turning his attention to the Apple TV. Troughten-Smith was able to hack the Apple TV to run iOS applications. Although the hack isn’t available to the masses just yet, the proof is in the video linked below.

“Nick had written this amazing window manager for the iPad that replaced the entire home screen, allowing you to run multiple apps side by side, and I realized this could enable iOS apps on the AppleTV for the first time,” Troughten-Smith told CNET. “We’ve spent the past 2 days modifying everything to work really well on the Apple TV screen size, etc, and getting apps to run.”

Take a look at this video of the promising hack in action. I’ll be waiting for a public release in the meantime.
