The one thing that is bearing the brunt of everybody being home is your Wi-Fi. Some months ago, it would have been working just fine. But now with the kids home scrambling for online classes and games in equal measure, and everyone else trying to play their games online and watch their favourite shows, your Wi-Fi must be slow at best. Find out if the trouble with your Wi-Fi occurs in all devices. If it only happens to your mobile phone then you might need a mobile signal repeater on top of everything else.
Below learn other ways on how to improve Wi-Fi connection in your house.
Update the router
Contents
It is now doing double, maybe even triple the work it was doing some few months ago – it cannot just work the same. Update the router and make sure the bandwidth is improved to support all the users currently holed up in the house.
Change the channel
You are not the only people who are at home, your neighbours are too! And if you are using the same wi-fi channel, your signals are going to be stretched to the limit. Think of your router like a radio whose signals sometimes get mixed up other signals. Change channels so the one you are using has less demand, most routers come with the ability to switch channels.
Position the router centrally
If the Wi-Fi connection seems good enough in one room and almost non-existent in another, it has to be a problem with range. Position the router in a central place in the house so all rooms and spots remain within range. If your connection might be strong downstairs but so weak in the upper rooms. You will need a Wi-Fi extender to repeat the signals so everybody can get a connection when they want. Still, on the position of the router, make sure wireless devices are not in its path.
Switch off devices not in use
The fewer devices connected to your Wi-Fi, the better the connection. Having all tablets, laptops, cell phones are and all other smart devices using the same Wi-Fi will make the connection much weaker. Besides running background apps and software that are constantly updating can eat into the bandwidth and leave you with so little to actually do what you want to do. If a device is not in use, just switch it off.
