Recent market research from The NPD Group shows that Google’s Android OS is surging ahead of the competition, now accounting for 52% of all mobile phones sold in Q2 2011 (3 months to June). While Apple sits in second place at 29%, SplatF makes note that the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS are still the best-selling mobile phones in the country. Here’s the whole top 5 for Q2 2011:

Over the same time period, Blackberry OS has fallen to 11% market share, with Windows 7, Windows Mobile and webOS holding less than 5% each.
