Assuming the world does not come to an end on December 21, 2012, Apple will release at least one new smartphone next year. Although the iPhone accounts for one-in-three smartphones here in the land of milk and Honey Nut Cheerios, Androids account for the other two and that share is even bigger overseas, especially in the all important China market. That’s why the iPhone 6 is expected rather sooner than later.
Various reports are circulating, most with rather vague credentials, whipping up speculation about the next iPhone – that it will debut in the spring and will sport the ‘killer features, such as NFC, wireless charging and biometric security, which were conspicuously absent from the iPhone 5 — Rethink Wireless.
NFC is a killer feature? What ridiculous pap — pull out your Android phone and drive from store to store until you can purchase a gallon of milk using NFC. Think that situation will be any better come Spring? I certainly don’t.
Wireless charging, which is a bit of an oxymoron at face value, and biometric security would be very nice, but probably don’t fall into the killer feature category.
However, there is something to the notion that Apple needs to iterate faster and getting the iPhone 6, if not the iPhone 5S (a perhaps more likely name), in Spring 2013 makes a lot of sense…
