New Jawbone Android App Released

The popular Jawbone UP health and lifestyle tracking wristband is now compatible with Android devices thanks to the release of a new app. Initially only available in a limited number of countries and only for iPhone owners, the Jawbone UP will soon be released in to new markets including Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East.

The Jawbone UP is a wristband, similar to Nike’s Fuelband, which contains a number of internal sensors which keep track of movement, distance traveled, calories burned and other fitness-related metrics. The device uses the accompanying app to translate this raw data into a ton of graphs and personal insights.

Jawbone UP Features:

Sleep Tracking – Jawbone UP tracks the number of hours that you sleep, light vs deep sleep as well as waking moments. You can set up what Jawbone call a ‘Smart Alarm’ which wakes you up at the optimum time. This Jawbone UP feature takes advantage of sleep-cycle knowledge and the well-known fact that waking up at a fixed time may happen to jolt you from a deep sleep and leave you feeling tired and groggy. You can also set a power-nap alarm which will start a 26.5 minute countdown once you fall asleep.

24/7 Activity Tracking – the bracelet monitors your activity via internal sensors and tracks the number of steps you take each day, your total distance covered as well as the intensity of your activity and calories burned.

Food and Drink Tracking – keep tabs on your daily calorie intake with drink and meal tracking. The Jawbone UP app features a barcode scanner so that you can log just about everything, as well as a comprehensive nutrition database. You can also take photos of your food to add to the app to create a visual record of your meals.

The Jawbone UP bracelet comes in 8 different colors, three different sizes and requires that you have an iPhone or iPad with iOS 5.1 or greater or Android 4.0 (Ice cream sandwich) or later. The Jawbone UP costs $129.99 in the United States, £100 in the UK and 130 Euros in Europe.

More information on pricing and ordering can be found on the Jawbone UP website.
