Can I Listen to Apple Music, Beats 1 Radio?

can-i-listen-to-apple-music-beats-1

As with anything involving Hollywood, the question “Can I listen to Apple Music, Beats 1 Radio and/or use the associated services?” comes down to where you live. Interestingly enough, Apple Music available, at least to some degree, in most countries and territories.

Of course, having said that, your mileage could vary, especially if you live in Angola, Puerto Rico, Israel, Taiwan and Turkey. Apple Music hasn’t launch in those places at all.

Apple has published a large, as in Marge, table listing Apple Music features vs country availability. There are 115 countries in said table and 110 of which offer all or a subset of Apple Music features and/or services.

Apple Music: Hardware, Software Requirements

To run Apple Music on an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, you will need to be running iOS 8.4. That means you will need an iOS 8 compatible device

To enjoy Apple Music on a Mac or PC, you will need iTunes 12.2. On the Mac, that requires only OS X 10.7.5 (Lion). PC users need only Windows 7.

There are additional Mac/PC requirements, but they are generally modest, including broadband internet and audio playback hardware (ie standard stuff).

That makes seeking out the edge cases the salient facts. For example, Apple Music’s “For You” section of curated playlists and new music recommendations isn’t available in the Bahamas, Bahrain, Burkina-Faso, Egypt, Hungary, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Mozambique, Namibia, Oman, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taiwan, Turkey and United Arab Emirates.

If you live a country where some or all of Apple Music isn’t available, it’s easy to find reason to complain. But remember, Apple isn’t the problem — some combination of Hollywood and individual country bullshit is keeping you out.

While there is still much work left to do, wow, Apple + Hollywood, major kudos…

What’s your take?
