Mobile Data Speed: Top 10 Fastest Smartphones

When it comes to mobile data speeds and naming the top 10 fastest smartphones, you have got to take the results with a really big grain of data cap salt

When it comes to mobile data speeds and naming the top 10 fastest smartphones, you have got to take the results with a really, really big grain of salt. Why? Because the average LTE upload speed in the US is 19.6Mbps while the average LTE download speed in the US is about 40Mbps.

The good people at ZDNet have published the results of a Aalto University in Finland comparing mobile data download and upload performance of 4,500 handsets.

The fastest smartphones shown download mobile data at more than
three times the average LTE download speed in the US.

Again, the average LTE upload speed in the US is 19.6Mbps while the average LTE download speed in the US is about 40Mbps — for more, see News.com.

Check out that truncated vertical scale! Those Android devices totally kick iPhone butt — an actual difference 2Mbps. The fastest smartphones upload data at more than twice the US average.

Fastest Smartphone: LTE: Cursed Promise

How fast can your smartphone download an HD movie using only mobile data? As shown above, the top three smartphones — Galaxy Note 3, OnePlus and iPhone 6 — are separated by less than a single megabit per second.

That’s probably within the study’s margin of error.

So, what does fastest mean? For the vast majority of mobile data consumers, the fastest smartphone gets them to their data cap fastest. LTE carriers cap mobile data at 10GB or less, usually a lot less, per line per month and a decent “HD” movie starts at 1GB.
