AT&T may have exclusivity over the Nokia Lumia 920 for the next six months but that doesn’t mean other carriers won’t be scrambling to get their hands on other Nokia Windows Phone 8 devices. Today, we’ve received confirmation that Verizon will be including the Nokia Lumia 920’s less-sexy-but-still-worth-checking-out mid-range sibling, the Nokia Lumia 822, to its fall line-up.
Nokia made the announcement earlier today, ahead of the scheduled Windows Phone 8 launch happening later today in San Francisco at 10 AM PST. The press release also states that the device will be exclusive to Big Red:
“Today, Verizon Wireless and Nokia announced the upcoming availability of the Nokia Lumia 822 – a powerful Windows Phone 8 smartphone exclusive to Verizon Wireless. With a unique design, enhanced camera, world class maps with turn-by-turn navigation and free unlimited music streaming, the Nokia Lumia 822 provides Verizon Wireless customers with high-end smartphone features on America’s largest 4G LTE network.”
The press release, however, does not provide any specific details around pricing and availability for the Nokia Lumia 822 other than the device will be included in Verizon’s Fall portfolio. President of Nokia Americas Oliver Puech says that partnering with Verizon allows them to “expand our award winning Lumia brand to even more customers here in the United States.” Puech adds that Verizon subscribers will also be able to take advantage of the carrier’s “incredibly fast 4G LTE network” with the Nokia Lumia 822.
The Nokia Lumia 822 will have a 4.3-inch screen, 8 MP rear camera (with Carl Zeiss optics) supported by a 1.2 MP HD camera in the front and will have interchangeable color covers. The device will also feature Nokia’s groundbreaking wireless charging technology.
Will the Nokia Lumia 920 be an acceptable replacement for the Nokia Lumia 920 to all Verizon subscribers out there? Or will you hold out until AT&T’s exclusivity period ends? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
