Nokia Lumia 920 To Get Competition From Huawei Ascend W1?

The Nokia Lumia 920 sure has been generating a lot of buzz for Windows Phone 8 and has gotten a lot of people interested in the upcoming OS from Microsoft. So much interest that it’s starting to look like it’s influencing other manufacturers to join the Windows Phone 8 bandwagon.

HTC and Samsung both have high profile Windows Phone 8 devices, the HTC Phone 8X and the Samsung ATIV S, hitting the market soon. Today, we’ve got word that Huawei has their own Windows Phone 8 smartphone in the works — the Ascend W1.

Yugatech reports that Huawei was rumored to have a September 25 event lined up to announce the device but that eventually proved to be false. However, Huawei did confirm that they’re planning to release Windows Phone 8 device called the Ascend W1:

“The September 25 launch is nothing but hoax. It is confirmed by a Huawei spokesperson that they don’t have any events during the said date. But all is not lost as the company mentioned that they indeed have plans of releasing a WP8 handset which would go by the name of Ascend W1.”

The even bigger news though is that Huawei may actually be planning an even better Windows Phone 8 smartphone that might be called the Ascend W2. According to rumors, the Ascend W2 will the premium device and will be the one going up against other high-end Windows Phone 8 devices like Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC Phone 8X.

Details around pricing and specs are practically non-existent at the moment but we’ll be keeping an eye out for more and be sure to share them to you as soon as they’re available.

I think I know the answer already but I gotta ask — do you think the Huawei Ascend W1 or Ascend W2 can compete against the Nokia Lumia 920? Sound off in the comments below!
