The next version of the OnePlus will look very similar to the iPhone X, period. The rumours and speculations come to an end. The company shared an image of the OnePlus 6 with The Verge, showing off the phone and specifically, the notch. It doesn’t want to be one of those bad iPhone X copycats.
OnePlus says that, there has been some negativity around notches and through The Verge (and the image shared), it wants to show why having a notch is actually a good thing. Vlad Savov of The Verge has been one of the biggest criticizer of the notch trend and it makes sense for OnePlus to start toning down the disapproval from the root(Vlad Save Notch).
Afterall, OnePlus is a company that listens to people’s ideas and tries to act like a balancing force. It doesn’t try to be “the” forward thinking company. Heck, the OnePlus 6 will sport a headphone jack. So, before releasing the OnePlus 6 and having people disapprove it, it makes sense to change people’s thoughts around the notch. If the company doesn’t do this, and releases the product directly, there could be a possibility of the sales numbers not hitting high at all.
What I said above, may not make sense quickly but if some research is done, it can be found that all the Android phones that have launched till date with notches are garbage. A lot of smartphone manufacturers released phones akin to the iPhone X at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 and they just don’t make any sense.
It could be said that, the Essential Phone is the first one to start the notch trend, well, that’s the case but its the iPhone X that made it popular. For the phone to work as intended, Apple changed the way the iPhone’s UI looks and made a couple of UX changes. And that’s what Android smartphone makers are not doing.
Asus released a phone with notch at MWC but the software is clunky, according to all the people who have used it. However, Carl Pei, Director of OnePlus Global says that, it won’t be the case with the OnePlus 6 as the company has created the phone with extreme care and that a lot of thought has gone into making it.
