OnePlus is expected to unveil its next flagship very soon and it’s barely been six months since the company unveiled the OnePlus 6. The upcoming phone is supposed to be an internal upgrade over the current generation phone if the company’s previous upgrade cycles are taken into picture. However, fresh leaks suggest that the upcoming phone will be a proper update, meaning the phone will actually offer something new.
The fresh leaks reveal that the OnePlus 6T will come with a much smaller notch compared to its predecessor. The OnePlus 6 was the first phone by the company that came with a notch, similar to the one found on the iPhone X. But that apparently won’t be the case anymore, the leaked images show a much smaller notch which appears to be much efficient about space.
Notches have become a thing of this generation, every smartphone appears to have them. Nokia, the brand resurrected by HMD has also begun making notched phones with its 2018 lineup i.e Nokia 5.1 Plus, Nokia 6.1 Plus and more in the pipeline. However, most of the companies don’t appear to be considering the notch practically, they are just implementing the iPhone X design. The point to be noted is that, the iPhone X sports a larger notch because of the facial recognition tech that it has to house on the front but none of the other Android phone have that tech but still sport large notches.
OnePlus appears to one of the first ones to have figured out that the notch could actually be different from the one on the iPhone X and that they don’t necessarily have to follow Apple’s design philosophy. Oppo, a part of the OnePlus’ parent company has also released a phone with a smaller notch. Essential was the first company to make a notch phone and it was actually quite smaller, however, it was the iPhone that created the trend.
