For those that don’t know, Pod2g is a main player in the Jailbreak community, being the main developer behind the iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak, a main figure in the iOS 5.1.1 Absinthe Jailbreak, and also an freedom-seeker for iOS to be opened up. Now, Pod2g seems to be going official, with an App coming soon to the App Store.
Pod2g first teased his App on January 1st, and then again on January 4th during the whole ‘Open iOS‘ plea, and now Pod2g has tweeted that it will be officially available on 12th of January.
There are no indications as to exactly what the App may be, or what it may do, but it has a release date so it can be assumed Apple have already approved it to be suitable to Apple’s ToS. Consequently, I doubt we’ll be seeing anything extremely clever, hidden, or a Cydia tweak reverse engineered into an official looking App, especially given Pod2g’s notorious reputation in the Jailbreak community – I imagine Apple paid special attention to the code behind this upcoming App.
Veteran Cydia tweak developer Joshua Tucker, co-creator of such tweaks as Callbar and Emblem, appears to already have had some hands on time with the new App and his comments sound impressive.
I for one am very excited to see what the clever mind of Pod2g has come up with, and also how close it is to violating the Apple ToS’ if his reputation is anything to go by.
For those wondering about the iOS 6 jailbreak – it is in the works underground, with Pod2g confirming that he already has it running on his device, and just needs a few more components to make it stable. He mentioned that the release will more likely come after the iOS 6.1 update in an attempt to not waste valuable exploits with an impending iOS update.
