The Samsung Galaxy Camera has had many viewers confused, wondering whether Samsung’s idea is to bridge the gap between camera devices and smartphones or if they are just trying to put more sharing and saving features onto a camera.
Whatever Samsung’s strategy, we will see today if it pays off, with the Samsung Galaxy Camera now on sale at AT&T with various data contracts available. You can, of course, buy the camera off-contract for $499, but this will come without a data plan until you find a contract solution, meaning the web will have to stay at home.
Samsung Galaxy Camera was first shown at IFA 2012 and many didn’t know what to think of the camera/phablet, many decided not to take a closer look, as the Galaxy Note II was revealed the same day.
Early reports from various reviewing pages have said that while they still don’t see where Samsung are going with this idea, it beats any phone shooter and is worth the price if you are serious about image/social photography. That is to say, using apps like Instagram to upload your photos.
Photographers that are looking to buy this phone will get 16 megapixels, 2.3-inch BSI CMOS sensor and 21x zoom. For camera geeks out there, it is pretty average on the large spectrum, but for the price, the Samsung Galaxy Camera offers good quality features.
Other features include Jelly Bean 4.1, this is the first time we’ve seen anything past Gingerbread added to a camera. We are unsure if Samsung are looking to add Android 4.2 to the Samsung Galaxy Camera, for photo sphere and other camera related features.
The Samsung Galaxy Camera has a 4.8-inch screen with 1280 x 720p HD display, 1.4 GHz quad-core processor supported by 1GB of ram, it has HSPA+ availability, Bluetooth, WiFi and GPS. Buyers should also note they get 5GB’s of free Dropbox storage if they buy the camera, but this offer is for two years only.
