After a long wait, Samsung finally released the Samsung Galaxy S4, an update to their flagship device the Galaxy S3, and with it a whole array of new features enticing users to upgrade. But in reality, the S4 isn’t that much of an update to the S3, so many people will be considering not jumping from their beloved Samsung Galaxy S3. For those users, you’ll be pleased to know that Samsung are bringing alot of the Galaxy S4 features to the S3.
In an interview with PCMag, Samsung said that many of the software improvements found in the new Samsung Galaxy S4 will be released to their other flagship devices.
“Anything that we can do that’s not dependent on hardware like infrared,” says Samsung, “we’ll definitely bring to all the flagship devices.”
Samsung boss Nick DiCarlo pinpoints the camera and says that the improved quality of the camera doesn’t come from hardware, and so will find it’s way to the Galaxy S3 as part of a software update. Consequently, something like the Dual Camera feature may find it’s way to the S3 as it doesn’t rely on hardware, but features such as the touchless motion gestures unfortunately more than likely rely on additional hardware found only in the Samsung Galaxy S4.
However, the good news here is that if you were sitting on the fence about upgrading and weren’t too bothered about the bump in specs and instead liked the look of the software, it appears many of the features will be coming to the Galaxy S3. Combine this with the software that will be ported over through rooting when devs get their hands on it, and you could probably turn your S3 into an S4 with no alot of effort at all.
