It seems that Sony is aiming the gun at their own foot with the upcoming Xperia SL, set for release in Q4 of 2012. Announced recently, the Sony Xperial SL specs don’t reveal any convincing reasons for users to upgrade to the new model.
The Sony Xperia SL comes loaded with only minor improvements compared to the Xperia S. The Sony Xperia SL also has 32GB storage space, 1GB of RAM and the 12-megapixel rear-facing camera, however the only step forward is the dual-core CPU, clocked at a higher 1.7 GHz rate, and the new operating system: Android ICS 4.0.4 now comes pre-installed.
There’s no bigger or higher resolution display, no performance boost, no design changes or improvements. The Sony Xperia SL is basically the same thing as the Xperia S, with a slight bump in specs and an updated OS.
For those users who have been hoping for a Galaxy S3 competitor from Sony, the Xperia SL is not the “man” for the job, just a reason to upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich without waiting for carriers.
