Speaktoit Assistant is an iPhone app developed by Speaktoit, Inc. If you like Siri, but wish the interface had a physical presence as well, this personal assistant app is worth checking out.
Speaktoit Assistant takes just seconds to get started. You can log in with Facebook, or create a new account in mere seconds. From there, your personal assistant (who has the default name of Sam but can be renamed) will take you through a tutorial, learn your name, and help you to get your bearings.
One thing I really liked about this app was the ability to type responses if your voice commands aren’t being recognized. While overall this app was great at recognizing and responding to what I said out loud, it was nice to be able to fall back on typing.
It was also nice that certain queries gave me a visual response, in addition to a spoken response. For example, a query for local weather gave me some helpful visual aids in addition to a spoken forecast.
However, there were areas where I wanted my assistant to speak, rather than just present the answer to my query onscreen. The app offers translating services, but it would be nice to hear the words pronounced correctly in another language, rather than just displayed on the screen.
This app doesn’t just cater to native English speakers. The multilingual assistant is available in English, Spanish, Russian, German, Japan, French, and Portuguese. Additional language support is coming in future updates!
There’s not a lot that this helpful app can’t handle. Your assistant can send texts messages and email, find places, do basic math, play music and videos, and much more.
Currently, the Assistant works with the following services: Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, Evernote, Yelp, TripAdvisor, Wikipedia, ChaCha, IMDB, Eventful, News360, Amazon, Gmail, Images, Calendar, and Maps.
If you’re looking for a personal digital assistant app, Speaktoit has powerful natural speech recognition, a simple interface, and a robust array of features. I was really impressed with how well this app performed, and I plan to keep on using it in the coming months.
Speaktoit Assistant requires iOS 6.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
