The Goofy Gallerist iPhone Game Review
Price: $0.99 Score: 9/10 Category: Games
Need a time waster that’s both intellectual and amusing? The Goofy Gallerist, developed by Matteo Diterlizzi, may be right up your alley.
With a huge number of sliding art puzzles to solve, easy-to-master gameplay, and stunning works of art to ogle, this little iPhone game will certainly class up your commute.
With over 200 levels to explore (featuring every kind of art from the ancient world to more modern offerings), you’d be hard-pressed to name a notable artist missing from this catalogue of games. And with so many levels, you’ll have plenty of paintings to keep you occupied.
Aside from the beauty of the paintings, The Goofy Gallerist itself is very beautiful. The unique vertical and horizontal panes overlap in an almost stained glass-like fashion, creating a puzzle experience that is perfectly in step with the subject matter.
Each time you complete a puzzle, you’ll get scored on a five-star system. The fewer moves you use, the higher your ranking (1000 stars to collect in all.)
And as the game continues, you’ll find those grids get increasingly hard to manage. There’s a great curve of difficulty, and it’s hard to get bored by later levels when the puzzles get super tough.
Aside from the occasional breast or nude body, the art used in the game is totally appropriate for kids and teens. That means it’s an iPhone game that might actually teach your kids about art history. Who says learning can’t be fun? (And pretty!)
All things considered, this puzzle app is challenging, mildly educational, and easy on the eyes. And if you play games on the train, you can look cool and intellectual while you kill time. What could be finer?
The Goofy Gallerist is compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 5.0 or later.
