The New York Times have just updated their iPhone and iPad apps to allow in-app purchase of a subscription. The update follows on from the reversal of the controversial Apple guidelines which greatly restricted the pricing options open developers of subscription-based content. There are now three subscription tiers that can be purchased in-app:
- $14.99/month – iPhone app access & NYTimes.com web content
- $19.99/month – iPad app access & NYTimes.com web content
- $34.99/month – iPhone, iPad, and web content
The subscriptions are recurring, unless cancelled. As with all other App Store sales, Apple receives a 30% cut of all subscriptions.
