VirtualBrowser for Chrome is an iPad app developed by Xform Computing. This helpful app lets you have the Chrome browser experience on your iPad. This, in turn, enables the use of Flash-intensive sites like Facebook apps, greeting card websites, productivity tools, and more.
Regular readers may remember that several months back, we took a look at this app. At that time, we gave it a score of 8.5 out of 10. We noted that it was a great way to view Flash sites, games, and videos on your iPad, but that the keyboard felt clunky as compared to the Safari app.
In the initial review, we wrote: “There is a lot to like here, but there are some annoying issues that plague VirtualChrome. For one thing, scrolling down the homepage of content-heavy sites like Yahoo or CNN isn’t well-supported. Under these circumstances, VirtualChrome has a tendency to run really sluggishly. Scrolling down the page is a choppy proposition, and it’s quite frustrating.”
Several months on, and VirtualBrowser for Chrome is coming along nicely. Webpages are loading more quickly, and scrolling no longer feels choppy or sluggish. The overall user experience feels far more polished. Minor improvements to loading speed and smooth scrolling could still be made, but the app has come a long way.
VirtualBrowser for Chrome comes in 2 editions. The Standard/Basic setup has Flash, audio & video, and Java-applets, while an in-app purchase can upgrade you to Premium status and upgrade your options. This bonus features include JNLP/JAR Java support and the ability to save your settings between sessions.
On top of all this, the app is fully secure: all connections are encrypted, and no browsing history or cache is ever stored on your device. In short, VirtualBrowser for Chrome is a great app that just got even greater.
