There are literally hundreds of weather apps available on the app store, but Weather HD for iPhone and iPad takes things to a whole new level.
Developed by Vimov LLC, Weather HD provides a perpetual, high-resolution animation of the current weather conditions. Weather HD displays the local temperature, daily highs and lows, humidity, wind strength and direction all on a beautiful moving backdrop.
The animations are based on the current conditions and are continually updated – provided you have 3G or Wi-Fi enabled. As I write this, it’s 21 degrees with scattered cloud and Weather HD has a video with a bright blue sky and evolving cloud formations. The videos of the weather conditions are all on loops, but they’re so seamless that it’s hard to notice. What’s more, there’s multiple videos for each time of day and for each weather type to keep things interesting.
Weather HD isn’t about super-detailed weather information, but rather a simple and elegant way of presenting the information that you really need. If you need additional weather info, you can toggle on/off additional data such as chance of rain, pressure and visibility.
A great buy at $0.99, Weather HD is without a doubt my new always-on iPad screensaver.
