Developed by Michael Granzin, Zombie Food is a simple yet challenging Halloween-themed game for iOS.
Featuring a flappy-bird kind of playing mechanic, you tap the screen to keep a zombie-fish up in the air as you guide the fish through…you guessed it, zombie-food. Carrots, pumpkins, watermelons, celery – all given the spooky treatment.
The thing that makes Zombie Food a little tough is the need to ‘float’ yourself through a path laid out between zombie fruit/veg above and below you. There are some tight squeezes and it requires a fair bit of concentration.
Whereas in Flappy Bird, the objective was just to see how far you could get, there are many different levels in Zombie Food – each with an objective. As you float through the ‘zombie food’ the aim is to ‘eat’ a certain number of three different types of food. For example, in the first level that may be one carrot, one melon and one pod of peas.
As the levels progress, you need to eat more of each kind of food to finish the level – which means you need to keep yourself afloat for longer each time. If you bump into three of the wrong kind of zombie food, it’s game over. There are 5 chapters in all and a total of 50 unique challenges, as well as 4 special skills that you learn during the game.
The visuals are simple, but charming, as is the haunting ‘Halloween’ themed soundtrack. Keep in mind that this is not a big-budget title and so it does lack a bit of polish – but the gameplay is fun and does keep you coming back.
The download will cost you $0.99 and you can get it from the App Store here.
Zombie Food requires iOS 7.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
