Together with Apple releasing version 6.1.3 for their range of iDevices, Apple also released a firmware version 5.2.1 for their Apple TV, but like 6.1.3, the Evasi0n exploit was patched and consequently it couldn’t be Jailbroken. Apple TV users were left with a decision: either preserve the Jailbreak on the previous firmware, or update to 5.2.1 and gain access to the new Hulu Plus App. Luckily that decision can be made a bit easier today with a Apple TV Tethered 5.2.1 Jailbreak being released.
FireCore Dev-Team have announced over Twitter today that Seas0nPass has been updated to support an Apple TV Tethered 5.2.1 Jailbreak.
This version is still only for the 2nd generation of Apple TV, but for those wanting the Hulu Plus App, simply update and Jailbreak using FireCore’s new Seas0nPass.
Seas0nPass provides a TETHERED jailbreak of the 2nd gen Apple TV running the latest 5.2.1 (iOS 6.1.3 – 10B329a) software that was released on March 19th, 2013.
Older Apple TV versions can be used with saved firmware signatures.
The 3rd gen Apple TV is not yet supported.
Needless to say, only update to the new 5.2.1 firmware if you urgently, beyond any unreasonable doubt, matter of life and death, need the new Hulu App as it could be a while before an Untethered Jailbreak reaches our devices again. Remember, a Tethered Jailbreak requires the assistance of a computer each time the device boots or it will not boot at all. This could cause some users an issue as it is somewhat of a hassle to ensure you have a computer nearby to rerun the Jailbreak each time you want to boot.
